Large Classical Painted Plaster Figural Lamp Statue on Architectural Column Plinth
A striking large-scale painted plaster classical female figure, standing upon an impressive architectural column plinth, with a total height of approximately 6ft.
Circa 1900-1920s.
Elegantly modelled with flowing drapery gathered across the bust, one raised hand appears to hold a cluster of grapes or fruit, while the other gathers her flowing hair. An amphora stands alongside her, giving the composition a distinctly classical, possibly Bacchic, character.
The figure incorporates original moulded apertures, including a circular opening in the raised hand, purposefully formed to accommodate a candle, taper or lamp fitting, together with a smaller aperture to the rear for the passage of a cable fitting or wax flow.
The combination of classical sculpture and integral lighting provision makes this an exceptionally unusual decorative piece. Finished in an evocative aged patination of deep black and warm bronze tones, she has considerable presence and would make a dramatic focal point within a timeless traditional or contemporary interior.
The substantial fluted column plinth sits into a well crafted lead protective shielding band.

Condition: Very good overall condition, commensurate with age. No obvious signs of repair. Minor surface marks, wear and imperfections consistent with age and use, The figure and plinth remain structurally solid and sound in their composition.
