A striking antique, traditional cast iron ‘Britannia’ pub table with solid oak top dating to the early 1900s. The table base is formed with three legs, each with lion paw feet. At the top of each leg section is the very decoratively cast Britannia holding her shield in front of her. There is a tiered ornamentally pierced scrollwork platform cast to all three legs. The rest of the table is made up of detailed scrolling flowers and small lion head masks.
The aesthetics of both the solid oak top and cast iron base is quite simply an enviable one.
The cast table base shows a later painted deep red, reminiscent of the old railway livery colours. Showing through in places are historic remnants of subtle gilt/gold paint which combine seamlessly to compliment each other. The solid oak table top exhibits a lovely honest and consistent patination throughout to further eventuate this versatile Britannia tavern table..
