A striking large original Hovis bakery advertising sign, circa 1930s.
The raised, three dimensional gilt tin (toleware) lettering fixed to the green painted & riveted strapwork metal backplate with hanging/fixing brackets.
This iconic original Hovis bakery sign is a highly sought after piece of British advertising history. The enviable proportions mean it will display equally as well in the home as it will a shop or retail setting.
These signs were part of a “privilege advertising! scheme. The Hovis company supplied these premium eye catching signs to independent local bakeries across the UK on the condition that the bakeries prominently displayed the Hovis brand while using their flour.
Exhibits truly wonderful aesthetics.
Condition: Great solid order & structurally sound. Will show signs of wear commensurate to its age and use. Ready to hang. Photos sum up nicely. Overall a superb piece!
The sign has some weight but not at all heavy. Will only need standard fixings.
