Arts & Crafts Country House Small Elm Hall Chair - Orkney
Arts & Crafts Country House Small Elm Hall Chair - Orkney
A rare and striking early 20th century Arts & Crafts solid elm armchair of fairly small proportions. The four plank construction exhibits a sculpted saddle seat against a tapering back with curved top and neatly pierced carry handle. All flanked by wonderfully shaped upright and sinuous supports that ergonomically incorporate arm/elbow rests and bracket feet. The well executed and exposed ironwork fixings further accentuate the overall aesthetics of this wonderful chair.
Given the fairly small proportions, would be greatly utilised (for its primary purpose) as a hall chair for the taking on and off of boots and shoes, with the convenience of storing underneath.
The beauty is in its simplicity. Aesthetics matched by its versatility and function.
Weighty elm wood construction. Rich in colour and in grain, with a wonderful patina throughout!
Would fit equally well into todays popular interiors as it would a country house setting.
Condition: Wear commensurate with age. Absolutely solid, robust & fully functional. Photos sum up nicely.
